It was only a matter of time before Ram—long known as a rebellious, statement-making brand—brought the TRX back to life. That moment has now been confirmed, with the return set for summer 2026. This revival didn’t require any sci-fi tricks or DNA pulled from amber; instead, it came from smart engineering, clever reuse of proven SRT/Hellcat supercharged V-8 technology, and valuable lessons learned from integrating the 5.7-liter V-8 with the latest Atlantis electrical architecture found in the DT-generation Ram.
The outcome is nothing short of extreme: the most powerful street-legal, gasoline-powered half-ton pickup truck ever built. Producing an astonishing 777 horsepower, the 2027 Ram SRT Hellcat TRX raises the bar once again for high-performance trucks and firmly reclaims its place at the top of the segment
777 Horsepower, 680 lb-ft of Torque
The engine powering the 2027 Ram SRT Hellcat TRX is described as an all-new unit, not a simple retune of any previous Hellcat, Redeye, or Demon setup. According to Marty Jahoda, Chief Vehicle Engineer for Special Projects, the powerplant is derived from the standard “orange block” used in lower-output Hellcat models, but significantly reworked to handle higher performance demands.
Reaching 777 horsepower required moving a much greater volume of air through the engine. it explains that the TRX already featured the industry’s most free-flowing full dual sport exhaust system, complete with an X-pipe crossover, from the catalytic converters rearward. To meet stricter ULEV 60 emissions standards, Ram introduced a newly developed catalytic converter—one that maintains the same high-flow characteristics as the previous system without compromising performance.
To achieve these gains, Ram’s engineers focused on improving induction efficiency, carefully refining every airflow pathway. Their work reduced intake restriction by an impressive 18 percent. The team also adopted valvetrain components from the high-performance “red block” engines—used in the Redeye, Super Stock, and Demon—allowing the new TRX engine to rev higher than its predecessor.
While it declined to confirm an official redline, it’s expected to fall between the previous engine’s 6,100 rpm limit and the 6,500 rpm seen in the Demon. Air enters the system through both the front grille and the functional hood scoop, feeding into a radial air cleaner that draws air evenly around its circumference. This design ensures balanced airflow, improved efficiency, and extended filter life.
These breathing upgrades account for a substantial 10 percent increase in horsepower and a torque jump from 650 to 680 lb-ft. As a result, the TRX outperforms its closest competitor from Brand F by 57 horsepower and 40 lb-ft of torque.
Performance figures are equally impressive. The 2027 Ram TRX accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds—0.4 seconds quicker than the best first-generation TRX test and 0.1 second faster than the 720-horsepower Ford F-150 Raptor R. Top speed is capped at 118 mph, matching the maximum rating of its Wrangler Territory AT tires.
Refined Torque Flite Transmission
The Hellcat lineup relies on the highest torque-capable version of the well-known ZF 8HP95 eight-speed automatic transmission, and the 2027 TRX continues that tradition. However, this marks the transmission’s first integration with Ram’s new Atlantis electrical architecture. As a result, the transmission—much like the engine—had to be recalibrated to communicate seamlessly with the new high-control powertrain module and its network of 15 electronic control units.
Because this heavy-duty transmission is wider than the mid-level unit used in most DT-generation Ram 1500 models, engineers also had to make several packaging and fitment adjustments to accommodate it properly.
Suspension Enhancements
From a chassis standpoint, the new TRX evolves from the RHO platform, which itself was developed from the original TRX. Much of that progression centers on the Bilstein Black Hawk e2 Ram Active Terrain Dynamics shock absorbers. The RHO introduced the second generation of this system, delivering improved ride quality and clearer differentiation between drive modes.
For the 2027 TRX, those shocks receive further tuning based on real-world performance data and off-road experience. Compared to the previous TRX, drivers can expect reduced body float and a more pronounced contrast between driving modes, resulting in sharper handling and better overall control.
Most of the rest is pretty familiar: 35-inch tires on available bead lock-capable wheels, moving through 13 inches of front and 14 inches of rear wheel travel, providing 11.8 inches of ground clearance. An enhanced urethane jounce bumper works with three-stage progressive hydraulic “jounce cut-off” shock internals to cushion those rough landings. The electronically locking differential and hydraulic axle-hop damper are also back.
Design Enhancements
The updated TRX branding now features a bold T-Rex head logo, while the grille is fitted with a high-flow R-A-M badge and accented by Flame Red front and rear tow hooks. Buyers can also choose the optional Bloodshot Night Edition, which introduces the first-ever two-tone paint scheme on a TRX. This package combines a Blacktop upper and lower body with Flame Red side panels, a matching hood stripe, and distinctive splash-style body graphics.
Inside, the special edition adds a glass-encased TRX badge on the center console, along with carbon fiber trim woven with red anodized threads. Customers may also select either a full-length rock rail or powder-coated running boards for added protection and style.
Additionally, The seats are upholstered in premium Natura Plus leather with perforated suede inserts, highlighted by red bolsters, contrast stitching, and TRX embroidery on the headrests. Ruby Red seatbelts complete the look. Additional luxury details include a leather-wrapped, red-stitched airbag cover and a full suede headliner and visors—features borrowed from the upscale Tungsten trim. The signature cast-metal console shifter with semi-perforated leather returns, along with aluminum paddle shifters.
